The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the most versatile SUVs on the market. The Grand Cherokee not only is one of the more capable off-road SUVs, but it also has the space and comfort that buyers covet from a midsize SUV. Alas, the decade-old design has shown its age, and the Grand Cherokee has been surpassed by newcomers including the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. That all changes with the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, as Jeep is rolling out a full redesign of its popular midsize SUV. The first version to come off the line is the three-row Grand Cherokee L. Travis Langness from Edmunds covers what's new, what isn't, and what you should know about the newly redesigned 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

One look at the new Grand Cherokee and it's clear Jeep put a lot of thought into the redesigned exterior. The Grand Cherokee L is a little larger than a typical three-row SUV, which helps explain why the Grand Cherokee is a little more expensive than its competitors. The new grille gives it an aggressive appearance, while the sleek lines lend the three-row Grand Cherokee a more modern look. Jeep has clearly taken cues from its competitors, and the Grand Cherokee L looks all the better for it.

The redesigned interior of the Grand Cherokee L is sure to please just about everyone. The third row offers enough room for adults to fit comfortably. Just as Jeep took exterior cues from its competitors, the interior has a more luxurious look and feel that match the best in the segment. Open-pore wood veneers, metal trim and premium leather give that luxury SUV aesthetic. An abundance of new technology elevates the Grand Cherokee L even further, highlighted by the 10.1-inch touchscreen that is loaded with Jeep's newest infotainment system, called Uconnect 5. The system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, and it can download over-the-air updates.

There is no doubt that the Grand Cherokee L is better than the previous versions. But does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L have the goods to retake the crown as best midsize SUV? The full redesign of its interior and exterior is certainly a good start. The added tech features make it even more appealing. The Tellurides and Palisades of the world aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so it was time for Jeep to give its popular midsize SUV an upgrade. We like what we see so far, and we're excited to see the new Grand Cherokee L cruising around town very soon.
