Did Millions Of Years Of Being Punched In The Face Change Men Forever?

Next time you get in a bar fight and you don't accidentally get your entire face broken in, you probably have millions of years of evolution to thank. At least that's the theory proposed by David Carrier and Michael Morgan in a new study published in the journal Biological Reviews. The study argues that our faces evolved to minimize injury from punches during fights between males, and also suggest that these changes happened some time after the evolution of hand proportions that allowed for the formation of more rumble-ready fists.

The end result of all of those millions of years of face punching? The more hard, chiseled jawline that you see in a modern man. The real question for the future of men is: since we don't get into as many fistfights anymore, will our faces slowly morph back into a more mushy, less squared outline? Feel free to discuss in the comments. Just don't get into any fights.
