After owning a Ford Maverick Hybrid for a full year and over 13,000 miles, we've gathered all the real-world data on what it’s actually like to live with Ford’s popular compact pickup. Purchased in midlevel XLT trim with all-wheel drive for an as-tested price of $36,990, our One-Year Road Test put this little truck through daily commutes, holiday road trips, and haul duties to see if it truly lives up to the hype.
There is a lot to love about the Ford Maverick Hybrid. Its carlike handling and tight turning radius make it exceptionally easy to drive and park, while the upright windows provide stellar outward visibility. The hybrid powertrain delivers smooth low-speed performance and outstanding efficiency, averaging nearly 33 mpg over our year of testing and frequently topping 35 to 40 mpg. Inside, the cabin impresses with clever storage, charming design accents, and an intuitive standard touchscreen.
However, daily ownership isn't without a few compromises. Highway cabin noise, engine strain on steep grades, and firm seats with limited thigh support can make long road trips tiresome. On the maintenance front, the Maverick required just one service visit at 11,000 miles for routine maintenance and two zero-cost recall repairs, before appraising at $28,600 after a year. Earning an Edmunds rating of 7.6 out of 10, and winning Edmunds Top Rated Truck for 2026, the Ford Maverick Hybrid remains our number one compact pickup and a terrific overall value.

The Hyundai Tucson already sits near the top of our compact SUV rankings, but the redesigned 2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid aims to raise the bar even higher. Boasting an aggressive new "Art of Steel" exterior design language, the updated small SUV grows taller, wider and longer, featuring striking 3D prism rear taillights and an imposing front grille.
Inside, the cabin undergoes a total technological transformation centered around a massive 17-inch touchscreen powered by Hyundai's new Pleos Connect operating system. The high-tech setup includes an upgraded AI voice assistant named Gleo, dual wireless charging pads, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Crucially, Hyundai listened to customer feedback and retained physical knobs and buttons for climate and audio controls. Passenger space is exceptionally generous, offering class-leading rear legroom, 83-degree wide-opening rear doors, and three sets of LATCH anchors. Cargo space remains a major strength, providing up to 41.7 cubic feet of capacity with a lowered load floor and convenient rear seat-release pulls.
Under the hood, the 2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid pairs a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to generate 233 horsepower, while targeted EPA estimates reach up to 42 mpg combined. An all-new rugged XRT Pro trim also joins the lineup with 8.3 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires and underbody shielding. With its smart interior packaging, cutting-edge technology, and refined hybrid powertrain, the new Hyundai Tucson Hybrid makes a formidable case to remain the best SUV in its class when it arrives in early 2027.
