Either way, here are 10 holiday get-ups that CNBC predicts will be big this year.
Number 10. The Ice Bucket Challenge. The awareness and fundraising initiative that dominated social media will likely take over Halloween as well. The costume is clever, timely, and, possibly best of all, easy to DIY.
Number 9. Spider Dog. Facebookers and Tweeters everywhere were no doubt happy to learn that the gigantic, creepy spider all over their feeds was just a done-up dog. Why not continue to freak out the masses by throwing some fuzzy, spindly legs on your own pup?
Number 8. Sexy. If Halloween has proven one thing as of late it’s that just about anything can be made into racy ensemble. That includes sock monkeys.
Number 7. Sexy, male version. While the male expression of the come hither costume often times covers more flesh, it’s still loaded with all sorts of suggestive elements. Wild and dangerous meets cute and fuzzy is a popular approach.
Number 6. Childhood nostalgia. Kids’ books remain as strong a costume inspiration as ever and serve as a testament to the enduring popularity of their characters. Top picks for this year include Waldo and and The Cat in the Hat.
Number 5. Body suits. While not so much a costume as a way of wearing a costume, the all-in-ones are taking Halloween by storm. They’re quick, easy, and now come in a variety of colorful and detailed options.
