Here are 10 things Canadians do better than Americans.

The US often overshadows its peaceful, polite neighbors to the north, but that certainly isn't because Canada is lacking in spotlight-worthy attributes.

Here are 10 things Canadians do better than Americans.

Number 10. Avoid getting robbed. Only 86 in 100 thousand Canadians are reported victims of the crime. In the US that number is 114.

Number 9. Apologize. A poll from Queen's University found that 90 percent of Canada's youth say they're sorry when somebody bumps into them. Even a short trip taken on US urban mass transit reveals that America's younger adults handle those types of situations differently.

Number 8. Socialize from space. No astronaut can match the social media appeal of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. With his easy to follow, fun video snippets from the International Space Station, he captured the world's attention. He has over a million Twitter followers. Buzz Aldrin has just over 800 thousand.

Number 7. Accept the theory of evolution. Rational minds certainly prevail in Canada, where over 60 percent believe Darwin was legit. Only about 30 percent of US residents feel the same way.

Number 6. Live longer. Three years longer, on average. Life expectancy is 81 in Canada and just over 78 in the US. The gap has grown in Canada's favor every decade for the last few.

Number 5. Maintain their middle class. The two countries have similar income figures among the demographic, but that's because Canada's increased while the United States' experienced a sharp decline.

Number 4. Balancing work and life. Neither country is earning a gold medal in this category, but Canadians definitely do a better job of knowing when to declare a workday done. Only 4 percent of workers there put in over 50 hours a week, compared to over 11 percent that do so in the US.

Number 3. Gravy Fries. In Canada they call the dish poutine, and it's made of fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy. Many American chefs have tried their hand at reinventing the hangover go-to, but don't quite capture the essence.

Number 2. Ski Resorts. Conditions and options are superior on the northern side of the border. A comparison between both countries' top resort towns, Whistler and Vail, shows the former as having a greater number of trails, longer runs, and a lot more snow.

Number 1. Niagara Falls. The Canadian side has long been heralded as the superior of the two viewing options as it offers a panoramic vista of all 3 falls, Bridal Veil, Horseshoe, and American. It's often more crowded, but there's a pretty good reason why.
