We spent two days driving the 2019 Audi Q8 in the slippery snow-covered hills and sun-soaked desert valleys between Utah and Colorado to see if it's functional for family use while being fun to drive.

Two-row SUVs are gaining popularity thanks to their smaller size and easier maneuverability compared to their larger brethren. Audi took that philosophy to the next level with its new 2019 Q8. Based on its popular Q7 three-row SUV, the Q8 trims the last row off and offers sporty handling with an aggressive face. Edmunds editor Calvin Kim

Edmunds editor Calvin Kim has all the details.

Q: What kind of powertrain does the Audi Q8 have?
A: The only powertrain available is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that features a mild hybrid system. All together, it produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The mild hybrid system smooths out the engine stop-start functionality adds a bit of boost off the line. Power from the engine then goes to an eight-speed automatic transmission before being sent to all four wheels. All-wheel drive is standard on the Q8.

Q: How many people and/or things can the Q8 hold?
A: The Q8 can seat a maximum of five passengers, including the driver. Behind the rear seat, the taller roofline allows for a roomier cargo bay, with a capacity of 30.5 cubic feet. With the seatbacks folded forward, the space increases to 60.7 cubic feet. For comparison, a large 48-inch-wide refrigerator on sale today has a capacity of around 30 cubic feet.

Q: What are the Q8’s main competitors?
A: The list for the Q8’s competitors is long and includes the BMW X6, Maserati Levante, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Coupe, Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport.

Q: How much does the 2019 Audi Q8 cost?
A: The Q8 Premium model starts off at $68,395 (including destination fees), while the Premium Plus model starts at $72,395. The top-of-the line Prestige model goes for $77,545. Moving up in trim level gets you additional safety features, better sound systems, larger wheels, custom colors and plush interior materials.
