2020 Bentley Continental GT Unveiled https://youtu.be/G3YaGzzjo6s
The 2020 Bentley Continental GT's on-sale date has been delayed — but only if you insist on the 12-cylinder model. If you can make do with four fewer cylinders, you can still get your hands on one sometime this fall, in the form of the Continental GT V8 coupe and GT V8 convertible.
In other areas, we expect the 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 to have all of the same style and panache of the W12. The expert craftsmanship and exquisite materials should please even the harshest of critics.
Beneath the base Bentley's bonnet resides a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that produces 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. That's less than the W12's 626 hp and 664 lb-ft but still suitably impressive. In fact, if history is any indication, the V8 may be the Continental of choice for a certain kind of driver. The previous-generation Continental GT V8 had less weight up front than the W12, giving it a sharper initial turn-in and improving overall athleticism for those who prefer to explore the full handling potential of their Bentley. Naturally, the V8 will have better fuel economy figures, too. Though for most Bentley buyers, we're guessing that's not much of an issue.
Bentley estimates the Continental GT V8 coupe will reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and have a top speed of 198 mph. The W12 is merely 0.3 second quicker and 9 mph faster. The V8 will also have a touring range of 500 miles, besting the W12's 411-mile range. Both engines are able to travel these distances thanks to a cylinder deactivation system that seamlessly shuts down half of the cylinders under certain cruising conditions.
Pricing and Release Date
Prices will start at $198,500 for the coupe and $218,350 for the convertible when the Continental GT V8 launches in the third quarter of 2019. For the convertible, that's a savings of $17,750 compared to the W12. Again, probably not a concern for most Bentley buyers, but $17 large seems a sum worth noting. Be sure to check back with Edmunds for more information and driving impressions as we close in on the official launch.
