2022 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake

The 2022 Genesis G70 can now be had as a shooting brake too. Yet another proof of the Korean brand’s continuous expansion is the more practical version of the G70, which made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 9th, 2021. The sedan version of the car is already a formidable player in the luxury performance sedan market. When the G70 Shooting Brake hits the market, it will compete with the VW Arteon Shooting Brake.
The same engines from the sedan version of the G70 carry over to the Shooting Brake. Just like before, European models will get the 2.2-liter e-VGT turbo-diesel with 199 horsepower and 325 pound-feet (441 Nm) of torque.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 are now being phased out, in favor of a new 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6. The new 2.5-liter turbo-four can already be found in the Hyundai Sonata N-Line. In the G70 Shooting Brake, it is expected to make the same 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet (421 Nm).

The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, on the other hand, succeeds the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 and makes 380 horsepower and 391 pound-feet (530 Nm). It’s too early to talk about an EV version of the car, although given the direction carmakers (including Genesis) are headed, it’s only a matter of time.
As with the exterior, the most notable difference is going to be in the back. No doubt, the G70 Shooting Brake will provide a more generous headroom, as well as more cargo capacity than its sedan counterpart.

Other than that, the Shooting Brake gets the familiar highly-finished, two-tone G70 interior, we’ve come to know since 2020. This includes the 10.25-inch, centrally-positioned infotainment screen, with Genesis-exclusive interface and the clear instrument cluster in front of the driver.
With that being said, the G70 Shooting Brake is still based on a rather performance-oriented luxury sedan. With this in mind, luggage capacity will probably not be the best in class, although it’s still expected to be reasonable for that type of car. With this in mind, the only drawback we can think of now is that cargo capacity probably won’t be as generous as that of the VW Arteon Shooting Brake.
