Back in 2011, a small team of Skoda engineers were set an ambitious task. They were to take an Octavia vRS, and with some careful modifications, break the Bonneville land speed record for 2.0-litre, forced-induction production cars. To take the record, however, the Octavia would have to remain close to the standard model, so it used the engine block and gearbox from the road-going Octavia, but with one crucial difference. The engineers strapped a huge Garrett turbo to the motor, which boosted all the way to 700bhp. It was enough to decimate the record, with a 227mph run in the hands of Dickie Meaden 10 years ago. So buckle up, and let our man Yousuf Ashraf show you what it's like to grapple with the fastest Skoda on the planet.
