You have to give it to Garmin - it’s not easy to see the product category your business is a leader in vanish in a few short years, and then transition into a completely different product category and succeed. But that’s essentially what they’ve done in the wearables space. Their previous fitness wearables, the Vivofit and Vivosmart, have consistently received high marks from reviewers, and their new fitness-focused smartwatch the Garmin Vivoactive looks to do the same.

Just announced, the Vivoactive is a very slender and sleek looking watch that packs GPS tracking and phone notification functionality. And despite its bright color touchscreen, the Vivoactive can allegedly last up to 3 weeks on a single charge -- although only in watch / activity tracking mode. The GPS is still incredibly power hungry, and with it on you’ll only be able to go 10 hours between charges.

As far as watch-shaped fitness wearables go, the Vivoactive is certainly among the most aesthetically pleasing on the market. Sure, it might not be the most competitive field in that regard, but it still counts for something. And unless Garmin has made serious errors that will come to light in testing, they should have a winner on their hands.

The Vivoactive will be available for $249.
