Between the Pixel 8 line’s new Tensor G3 chip and an assortment of powerful software features, Google might have just cut through the hype by giving regular people a reason to care about again. The Pixel 8’s Magic Editor uses machine learning to put sophisticated photo editing in the palm of your hand and, thanks to improved natural language recognition, you can ask the Google Assistant to summarize articles or read them aloud while translating in real-time. The phone’s new Actua displays have also set a high bar in terms of brightness, while Google’s pledge to provide seven years of software support is practically unmatched among Android devices. So while it’s a small bummer that prices have risen $100 to $699 and $999 respectively, with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, it feels like Google is entering a new era of AI-powered computing.
