For the first time in more then a decade, AMD looks to have produced a CPU that can match or even beat Intel's best in "instructions per clock." This is a fundamental measure of processor speed, but what is an instruction, and what is clock speed while we're at it? We break it all down and try to explain how, even though clock speed hasn't increased much in years, CPUs are still getting faster.
