Hello everyone! Welcome to our channel. In today’s video Smart is the New Sexy is going to tell you about the disastrous effects that can occur if an asteroid hit our planet. Forget Armageddon, we’ve prepared for you something even worse. Buckle up for a rough ride with us.

The possible damage of an asteroid strike depends a lot on the asteroid's size, speed, and density. Let’s take 3 different examples to demonstrate what would happen if such asteroids hit Earth.

Asteroid #1 02:23
Space rocks smaller than about 25 meters (about 82 feet) will most likely burn up as they enter the Earth's atmosphere and cause little or no damage. You might see a so-called falling star during the night.

Asteroid #2 02:44
If a rocky object larger than 25 meters but smaller than one kilometer were to hit Earth, it would likely cause local damage to the impact area. An asteroid the size of Empire State building is bad news. With the right composition, speed, and angle of attack, a rock this size might leave a wake of destruction the size of central Manhattan or even more. An asteroid like this would flatten reinforced concrete buildings up to half a kilometer from ground zero, and flatten wooden structures perhaps a mile and a half from ground zero. It would, in other words, do extensive damage to any city.

Asteroid #3 03:14
Anything larger than 1 to 2 kilometers could have worldwide effects. In other words, if a mile-wide asteroid were to directly hit New York City, the force of the impact probably would completely flatten every single thing from Washington D.C. to Boston, and would cause extensive damage perhaps 1,000 miles out -- that's as far away as Chicago.
