Honor made a little noise earlier in the year with the 5X, a $200 budget option which was really well received. To wrap up 2016, this offshoot of Huawei is pushing into the hyper-competitive mid-range with some interesting hardware.
The Honor 8 is striking similar to the Huawei P9 we reviewed earlier this year, just swapping a metal back for a new sapphire blue glass back. Most notably, you might remember our coverage of the Huawei P9 camera, featuring dual sensors influenced by Leica design. That same camera system is available here on the Honor 8, alongside the rest of the P9 hardware. A Kirin 950 chipset and 4GB of RAM power the phone’s 5.2″ 1080p LCD, and a 3,000mAh battery should keep your phone running all day. We get a revised fingerprint sensor, with an additional trick, and Honor added an IR blaster to use this phone as a universal remote.
This unlocked handset will sell for $399 for a 32GB model, and the price jumps to $449 for a 64GB unit. Here’s our first look at the Honor 8 from the launch event in San Francisco!
