Travis Langness of Edmunds brings you a first look at the new pickup truck from Hyundai, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. In this video, Travis gives his first impressions of the Santa Cruz pickup and details what he likes and dislikes. Hyundai first teased the Santa Cruz pickup as a concept vehicle back at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and after a long wait, we are finally getting a chance to see the final product.
The 2022 Santa Cruz uses a unibody construction, like the Honda Ridgeline, forgoing the more traditional body-on-frame construction that you'll find in traditional trucks such as the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado. We weren't able to drive the Santa Cruz at this event, but if it's anything close to the Ridgeline, then this type of construction should give the Hyundai pickup a more comfortable and refined ride than most other midsize trucks.
At first glance, the Hyundai Santa Cruz looks up to the challenge to compete in the midsize truck market. We'll get a better feel for how the pickup handles on the road when we're able to perform some in-depth testing. But for now, our first impression of the Hyundai Santa Cruz is a positive one. This is Edmunds' first look at the brand-new 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup truck.
