9 Imposssible Facts That Would Be True If The Earth Were Flat

Though humankind knows that the Earth is round and has known it for centuries, the belief that our planet is flat is still there. That’s why we at Smart is the New Sexy decided to examine how the common principles of science would work on a flat Earth.

Shall we start? Yep!

First! Traveling on the Earth would be a problem.

On a round Earth, a flight from Sydney to Buenos Aires is about 9000 miles and it takes 14 hours at 640 mph. On a flat earth, the distance between eastern Australia to Buenos Aires would be huge because they will be on opposite sides - more than 12,000 miles apart, and the flight between them would take at least 20 hours. Another example is flights from South Africa to New Zealand that go over Antarctica. On a flat earth, this would be impossible. You would have to fly off the disc of the earth.


Second! There could be no gravity

A pancaked planet might not have any gravity. It’s unclear how gravity would work, or be created, in such a world. People who believe in a flat Earth assume that gravity would pull straight down, but there’s no evidence to suggest it would work that way. What we know about gravity suggests it would pull toward the center of the disk. That means it would only pull straight down at one point on the center of the disk. As you got increasingly far from the center, gravity would tug more and more horizontally. This would have some strange impacts, like sucking all the water toward the center of the world, and making trees and plants grow diagonally, since they develop in the opposite direction of gravity’s pull.
