Competitive gaming has been around for as long as people could land their 3 character initials on a digital scoreboard.
However, no games come quite as close to being as intense and competitive as fighting games. The fighting game genre got its start in the 1970s, but it was when Street Fighter 2 hit the arcades in the 1990s that the genre would ascend to a whole new level of competetiveness. Since then, many groundbreaking titles have graced the genre, such as Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Super Smash Brothers, and much more. However, considering all of those franchises debuted around 30 years ago, where does that leave the state of fighting games today? Is being a fighting game fan today as exciting as it once was?
