The name “Suicide Squad” might seem to imply otherwise, but director of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie from DC film, James Gunn, told Esquire Magazine the DC franchise saved his life in so many ways. The offer to direct the DCEU DC film came to him after he was initially dropped by Marvel over a few now deleted controversial tweets he made a decade prior. Fortunately he was able to do just that with the DCEU, and he was reinstated as writer-director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so he’s able to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe recharged after probably a much needed and welcomed break. We’ll get to see James Gunn’s latest when Suicide Squad rolls out on HBO Max (for 31 days) and theaters on August 6.

In other news, the TV world was shocked yesterday to see Don Cheadle was nominated for an Emmy for his very short cameo in the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Cheadle was nominated for the Guest Actor in a Drama Series Emmy. And finally, The Rock gives us a look at him all suited up as the Black Adam! In the image, The Rock is on set, in costume, and we get to see some of the major set pieces from the movie. The set he’s on appears to be the fictional DC nation of Kahndaq, amidst some fresh destruction. Black Adam is known for being an anti-hero, so maybe he’s the one who destroyed that pillar with his awesome lightning powers. Catch The Rock in the Black Adam movie when it hits theaters July 29th, 2022.
