Join us this summer in Kyoto https://www.tedforbes.com/kyoto-summer-26

Kyoto in the summer is unlike anything else in Japan. During Gion Matsuri, the city transforms into a living festival of lanterns, music, procession floats, crowded night streets, traditional food stalls, and an atmosphere that is both chaotic and unforgettable. In this workshop, we’ll photograph Kyoto during one of its most visually rich and culturally significant times of the year.

This is not a typical photography tour or photowalk. The workshop is designed around immersion, observation, sequencing, atmosphere, and learning how to work deliberately inside complex environments. Through daily shooting assignments, image reviews, and small group discussions, I’ll be sharing the same photographic process I use in my own work.

We’ll also have opportunities to photograph additional cultural subjects including a private Maiko session in Kyoto. Because this workshop is intentionally small, there will be extensive one-on-one guidance throughout the experience. If you’re interested in documentary photography, street photography, visual storytelling, or building a more intentional body of work, I’d love to have you join us in Japan this summer.
