My Nikon Z8 started glitching mid-shoot—and I still can’t explain it.

The Nikon Z8 has been one of my main workhorse cameras for both photography and video, so experiencing severe EVF glitches, freezes, and corrupted frames during a real‑world shoot was a shock. In this video I break down exactly what happened, what lenses and adapters were involved, and the strange behaviour I saw through both the EVF and rear LCD. If you’re a Nikon Z8 owner or you’ve run into similar camera errors, freezes, or firmware‑related issues, I’d love to hear your experience in the comments.
This all happened right after returning from Japan, where we covered CP+, visited the Nikon Museum, and filmed with some incredibly rare Nikon equipment. After flying home unexpectedly due to a family emergency, I set up a simple portrait shoot in rural Australia — and that’s when the Z8 started glitching. From thermal‑vision‑style EVF patterns to repeated lockups and lost video files, this was one of the strangest technical problems I’ve ever had on a shoot.
I’m sharing the full story here not to alarm anyone, but to document the behaviour and hopefully crowd‑source some insight from other Nikon shooters. Whether this was a sensor issue, EVF processing error, firmware bug, or something else entirely, I’m hoping the community can help diagnose it. If you’ve ever had your Z8 freeze, reset settings, corrupt images, or show strange EVF artifacts, let me know — your input could help a lot of people.
