Elana Scherr takes a look at (and a ride in) the Ford Bronco R prototype. In this video, Elana explains the history of the Baja 1000 and its historical relevance to the Ford Bronco. We also get a brief rundown of the Bronco R's drivetrain and body-on-frame construction before seeing what it's like from the passenger seat at speed.

Ford is going to run the Baja 1000 again with a race-prepared version of the upcoming Bronco to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its win at the legendary off-road race. The Bronco R prototype is a complete race truck with what we suspect will be very little resemblance to the production Bronco that will debut next year.

Despite the differences, we can take cues from the overall shape of what the new Bronco might look like. Ford won't say what engine or transmission is in this race truck, but they are based on the hardware that will be in the production truck. We know it's a twin-turbo V6 — we suspect the 2.7-liter found in the F-150 — and a 10-speed automatic.
