Nike Tech Fleece

In between super sets and a Rocky-esque jump rope session, Jay found himself wishing he had a fleece jacket that was lightweight and warm for his 30 mile jog home. Luckily for him, Nike had a product coming out and enlisted Royale's help to create a short piece telling the story of how this revolutionary garment was made. Nike Tech Fleece is an innovative thermal construction that merges jersey with a synthetic spacer, allowing body heat to be trapped to create warmth without adding weight.
When seeing the product, our first thoughts were that this material was otherworldly and born out of one of our favorite sci-fi films. When researching the process of how the garment was made, we became fascinated with not just the process of cotton to completion, but also the technology involved in handling the delicate string fabric. We also discovered that the massive circular looms that construct the fabric were visually stunning. We immediately rallied and challenged our team of CG superstars. To control the weave of the threads, we built the entire garment in 3D. From here we enlisted Softimage's ICE to animate hundreds of thousands of threads along the surface of our CG fabric. It was an intense build, but well worth the extra miles. Tech Fleece was a great creative challenge and we look forward to getting Jay the entire line so that he will be warm and fashionable while "working out" at Equinox during the winter months.
