Sony XPERIA XA2 Ultra Review: Smack dab in the middle of the price spectrum, Sony delivers a MONSTER sized handset with the XPERIA XA2 Ultra. A 6" display might appeal to some "mini-tablet" phone fans, but what compromises did Sony have to make to keep the price tag in check?
For some folks, bigger will always be better, and the smartphone industry has more than its fair share of mini tablet phones to keep in our pockets and purses. Moving to the mid-range though introduces compromises. How do we deliver that big screen, in a premium package, while keeping prices in check. Sony thinks they’ve got the right formula with the Xperia XA 2 Ultra, so let’s put this beast through it’s paces.
Here we go folks. A six inch screen, Full HD resolution, that 16:9 aspect ratio, with Sony’s hallmark forehead and chin bezels. A step behind current premium phone trends, like skinnier aspect ratios, but looks can be deceiving. Similar heights, a little wider, but the overall surface area between this phone and a Note 8 is remarkably close.
Sony has done a remarkably good job of balancing Xperia design accents against thinner side bezels. I still enjoy this hard edged modern look.
