Embracer Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal, and a "catalog of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalog games from Square Enix Holdings" for $300 million dollars. This news comes shortly after Crystal Dynamics announced it was developing a brand-new Tomb Raider game on Unreal Engine 5. Square Enix has shared some of its reasoning behind the decision to sell Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal to Embracer Group, saying the transaction will allow the company to invest more in the blockchain, AI, and the cloud.

PlayStation is hiring a director of corporate development to help identify acquisition opportunities and bolster its collection of first-party studios. Sony is seeking someone with video game expertise and the candidate will not only help find and develop the initial opportunities, but also align them with Sony's overall culture and work process to "drive significant long-term value for the company".
