"The Brothers: John Foster Dulles, Allen Dulles, and Their Secret World War" is the story of the creation of the U.S. intelligence community, of the beginning of U.S. covert actions around the world, and of the overthrow of foreign governments in the name of democracy and in the interest of the giant corporations the brothers spent their careers serving. "The Brothers" places their extraordinary lives against the background of American culture and history, using the framework of biography to ask: Why does the United States behave as it does in the world?

Stephen Kinzer is an award-winning foreign correspondent who has covered more than 50 countries on five continents for newspapers including the Boston Globe and the New York Times over a career that has spanned more than four decades. He is a visiting fellow at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University, contributes articles to the New York Review of Books and The Daily Beast, and writes a world affairs column for The Guardian. "The Brothers" is his ninth book.
