Microsoft has played it safe with the Surface Laptop, but when it feels this good, maybe that's okay? While there are plenty of models from Dell, Asus, and HP that are flashier or more inventive, the Surface Laptop remains a solid performing, well-made device. With the option of either AMD Ryzen 4000-series chips, or new 11th gen Intel CPUs, it's a decent performer, and is paired with a great keyboard and screen. The XPS 13 and 15 are the closest competition, and if you're ambivalent about Windows, and new M1 Macbooks are excellent, but for a solid Windows machine that just works, the Surface Laptop 4 is here for you.
