Day of the Dead premieres on Syfy on Oct. 15. Spoiler-free review by Samantha Nelson.

Syfy is notorious for producing low-budget shows and canceling them after one season, and Day of the Dead seems destined for that same fate. Thin, unlikeable characters work fine for a horror movie, but it's a lot harder to want to stick with them for 10 episodes. There might be some life in the series if it ramps up the goofy action, but based on the premiere episode, Day of the Dead seems more likely to be buried by the competition.
