Horror fans are in for a terrifying treat this weekend – Crimson Peak, Guillermo del Toro’s latest fantastical fright-fest, hits theaters this Friday, October 16th and, if the advanced reviews are any indication, it’s gonna be awesome. If the film’s spooky trailer didn’t manage to sell you on it, this tidbit certainly will – the epic ghost story managed to scare the sh*t out of Stephen King. Yes, that Stephen King. The legendary horror writer called Crimson Peak “gorgeous and just f*cking terrifying.” If that endorsement doesn’t make you wanna run to the closest Cineplex ASAP, I don’t know what will.
The icing on the cake? The film is fronted by two tremendously talented actresses that we don’t typically find at the helm of horror movies – Stoker star Mia Wasikowska and Academy Award-nominee Jessica Chastain. While Chastain played the protagonist in 2013’s Mama, we’ll get to see the actress try something more malicious for size in Crimson Peak – a welcomed change, don’t you think? In honor of the actress’ descent into darkness, let’s take a look at some of the freakiest female characters in horror film history – come Friday, we’ll know whether or not to add her to the list.
Note: some of these clips are a little gruesome, so I’d recommend watching them off-the-clock -- unless, of course, you work at one of those “cool” offices where you drink beer on Fridays and settle debates with foosball matches and whatnot. If that’s the case, you’re probably good to go.
