Volvo EX30 first drive: Charming and eco-friendly with power to spare

The Volvo EX30 is the most interesting new EV this year, due to the $35,000 price and the fact that it’s a charming crossover with range up to 275 miles. It’s also very powerful for a budget EV, with up to 420 horsepower and very quick acceleration. It’s also eco-friendly to the core, thanks to sustainable materials and a low-carbon manufacturing footprint. It’s made in China by Volvo parent Geely, though, so it’s geopolitically complicated and won’t qualify for the Federal EV tax credit. But it’s bound to be a hit, as it ticks nearly every box you want in an EV.
