The Volkswagen I.D. R has smashed the outright record for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

At the hands of Romain Dumas, a double Le Mans and now four-times Pikes Peak winner, the all-electric I.D. R covered the 12.42-mile course in 7 minutes, 57.148 seconds. That not only breaks the existing EV best by almost precisely a minute, but beats the overall record of 8m13.878, set in 2013 by Sebastien Loeb in the Peugeot 208 T16.
