Will Dewitos Suffer The Fate Of These Other Failed Soft Drinks?

Mountain Dew has teamed up with delicious nacho chip maker Doritos and has changed the face of snacking forever. These two giants have come together to form Dewitos, the Doritos flavored mountain dew. So in the spirit of this soda creation that probably won't last very long, here are 10 delicious beverages that just couldn't handle the lemon-limelight.

Number 10, it's everyone's favorite blue soda, and it's here to make you wish you got a coke. It's Pepsi blue, and it isn't very good. It was launched in 2002 as a competitor to the delicious vanilla coke, and swiftly died in 2004. Not only did it taste pretty bad, but it's Windex like color was achieved with the extremely controversial Tint Blue 1. Seriously, the coloring agent was actually banned in several countries. Yikes.

Number 9 in the world of short lived sodas is none other than the Pepsi wild bunch. Haven't heard of them? That's probably because they were around for less than year. The Pepsi wild bunch was actually 3 different flavors consisting of strawberry burst, Raging Razzberry, and tropical chill. Pepsi actually sold these flavors as a three pack, so if you wanted one, you had to take the other two...not the greatest idea.

Number 8 Sequels are rarely better than the originals, and this could not be truer for coke 2. This sweeter, more Pepsi like coke was released in 1985 to compete with the growing beast known as Pepsi. In the early 80's Pepsi actually started to outsell coca cola in super markets, and caused coke to come up with coke 2. There was a huge backlash, and coca cola classic was revived.

Number 7 Are you ready for a Surge? No? Don't worry, neither was everyone else. In an effort to compete with Mountain Dew, coca cola released Mello Yello...no wait...the released Surge. This Electric green drink was actually brought in from Norway, where it was known as Urge. Maybe changing the name was a mistake, because the fluorescent beverage can still be found in Norway. Need a fix, just a grab a Mello Yello.

Number 6 Everyone enjoys sprite, it's been around for ages, and it's classic crisp taste is always refreshing. In comes sprite remix, here to turn your world on it's head. Not really. Coca cola released these three sprite variants in 2003, and they quickly died out in 2004. Available in Aruba Jam, Tropical, and Berryclear, this beverages got a pretty decent following in the U.S. Sadly it just wasn't enough.

Number 5 It's Orbitz, and it was a pretty weird drink...like really weird. released in 1996 by soda maker clearly Canadian, this "fruit drink" had no fizz, and had weird little balls of gelatin floating around in it. Not super appetizing...unless over coarse the idea of drinking a lava lamp is something you'd be into.

Number 4 What would happen if you took 7 up, and added spices to it to give it a more ginger ale like flavor? You'd get 7 up gold, a not-so-delicious drink that was around for a split second in 1988. It's slogan was Never had it, never will. Which is probably not a great way to entice your demographic. In all fairness the slogan referred to caffeine...which actually didn't make much sense, since 7 up gold actually listed caffeine in it's ingredients.

Number 3 What kind of failed soda list would this be without everyone's favorite drink, Crystal Pepsi. Introduced in 1992, this clear variation on the classic cola was sold as a non caffeinated, pure version of Pepsi. The see through beverage didn't do too well. It's initial release was promising, probably due to it being advertised during the super bowl along side Van Halen, but sales quickly plummeted and crystal Pepsi was taken off the shelves a year later.

Number 2 Coming in at number 2 is red fusion. This drink was the first new flavor added to the Dr. Pepper family in 120 years. It came out in 2002 and barely made it a year. It was basically a sweeter, cherry flavored Dr. Pepper. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't meant to last. Hopefully we won't have to wait another 120 years before we get a new Dr. Pepper flavor.

Number 1 Sometimes trying something completely different just doesn't pay off. Enter Pepsi fire and Pepsi Ice. They aren't blue, they aren't clear, but what the do have is some serious flavor. These Pepsi variants took mint and cinnamon and made them into a fizzy beverage. Probably not the best idea in the world, unless you always wished mouthwash was drinkable. How about we keep it simple. Grab a sprite and call it a day.
