Since there is a smart equivalent to just about any mundane object in your life, from doorbells to egg trays, it's only fitting that someone figured out a way to make your existing car a bit smarter as well. And the FIXD car sensor certainly seems up to the task. The gadget, which is having a run on Kickstarter right now, hopes to significantly upgrade your experience of owning a car by translating all of the thousands of indecipherable "Trouble Codes" that your car spits out when something is wrong.

Normally when your car's internal sensors detect something is amiss, it will try, meekly, to find one of the scarce few lights on your dashboard that best represents what is wrong with your ride. The problem is that it's difficult, at best, to determine if there is a serious problem or not. Can you afford to wait until the end of the week to get it checked, or is your car moments from bursting into flames? These are pretty useful things to know.

FIXD solves this problem for you by providing a gadget that plugs into the OBD-II diagnostic port that mechanics use when they want to determine what is wrong. The device then translates what the car is really trying to say when something goes awry, and it sends a push notification to your phone with all the details in plain English. From there it will give you a recommended course of action, as well as estimated repair costs for the problem.

If you're interested in trying one out, A $50 campaign pledge will be enough to walk away with a sensor and the app for either iOS or Android.
