Here are 10 foods that chains have offered in the past or are currently making available abroad, but not here in the US.
Number 10. Fish Roe Salmon Cream Cheese Pizza. Pizza Hut’s love of stuffed crusts extends far beyond US borders. In spring of 2014 diners in Hong Kong were introduced to a crust packed with a salmon and fish egg filling and topped with scallops, clams, shrimp, and crayfish.
Number 9. Gracoro Burgers. If you’re in Japan and craving a creamy gratin, McDonald's has you covered. Instead of the traditional all-beef patty, this sandwich has a breaded mélange of shrimp, macaroni, and melted cheese between its buns.
Number 8. Lobster and Caviar Burger. To celebrate the opening of its second restaurant in Japan, Wendy’s introduced this decidedly luxurious option. Lobster chunks and caviar don’t come cheap, however, with the sandwich debuting at a price upwards of 20 dollars.
Number 7. McGrillschnägg. For a time, McDonald’s diners in Switzerland had a novel way to enjoy a hearty, meat-filled breakfast. This item featured a stack of bacon, sausage, and rösti, the Swiss equivalent of the hash brown, topped with cheese and nestled in a bun.
Number 6. Wagyu Beef Pizza. Domino's locations in Australia took a trip to the gourmet side by introducing 3 pies featuring the specially raised beef. Offerings included dried, rib, and sausage incarnations of it.
Number 5. Pumpkin Burger. To welcome fall, the official season of all things pumpkin, Burger King in Japan introduced a very special burger served with slices of the popular autumnal gourd, bacon, and a nutty sauce.
Number 4. Corn and Philly Chicken Sandwich. Beginning in October of 2014, KFC patrons in Brazil were treated to a new and tasty twist on the fried chicken staple. This one features thigh meat and came smothered in a sauce made of corn and Philadelphia cream cheese.
Number 3. Georgie Pies. This flaky pastry filled with minced meat and gooey cheese has proven to be a hit in New Zealand. In response to the positive reception the pies received, McDonald's announced they’ve made a ‘long term commitment’ to keeping it around.
Number 2. Dry Pork and Seaweed Donut. Dunkin’ Donuts has no shortage of toppings, from sprinkles to crumbles. In China, there’s also a salty option which makes the donut more of a savory indulgence.
Number 1. Kuro Burger. In the case of this Japanese burger, black is the new beige. The bun and cheese used in this Burger King specialty are dyed using bamboo charcoal, and the black sauce gets its hue from squid ink.
