The 2019 Cadillac XT4 is a new entry in the hottest segment right now: entry-level luxury SUVs. A lot of brand-new or fully redesigned competitors are crowding the market, but Cadillac is betting that a little extra interior space and a lot of technology features will help the XT4 stand out. Edmunds staff writer Will Kaufman traveled to the outskirts of Seattle to jump behind the wheel of the XT4 and get the measure of this not-so-small small crossover. Find out what we think of the 2019 Cadillac XT4 in our Edmunds First Drive.

Q: What are the 2019 Cadillac XT4's competitors?
A: The Cadillac XT4 is meant to compete with vehicles such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and BMW X2, Lexus UX and Volvo XC40. It's slightly larger than these small SUVs, although not as large as the Audi Q5 or the BMW X3. Cadillac is betting that some buyers will appreciate an entry-level luxury SUV that's slightly larger than its diminutive competition.

Q: Is the 2019 Cadillac XT4 just a Chevrolet Traverse with a different face?
A: General Motors has done a lot of work to avoid merely badge-engineering an existing product. The XT4's platform is new and unique to the XT4. The XT4 also comes in about 2 inches shorter than the Traverse. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine has been thoroughly reworked by Cadillac, as has the nine-speed automatic transmission. Everything from the seating position to the driving experience to the technology features feels distinct as well.

Q: How much horsepower does the 2019 Cadillac XT4 have?
A: The Cadillac XT4 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

Q: What is the 2019 Cadillac XT4's fuel economy?
A: The EPA rated the front-wheel-drive XT4 at 24 mpg combined (22 city/30 highway).

Q: Does the 2019 Cadillac XT4 have all-wheel drive?
A: A twin-clutch AWD system is available as an optional extra on the Cadillac XT4. This system is able to disengage the rear wheels fully to improve fuel economy.

Q: How much does the 2019 Cadillac XT4 cost?
A: The Cadillac XT4 starts at $35,790 with destination and handling fees.
