In fact, plans for the next IS sedan are said to be advancing, with the model set to debut in July 2020 as a 2021 model. The website at the source of the rumour, Lexus Enthusiast, is a forum dedicated to the brand's fans. Adding weight to the new information is the fact that the publication also announced the manufacturer's ambitions for its 2019 ES, in great detail.

Obviously, some of its members are in the know. Besides the plans for the IS, we also learned that the first overhaul of the NX SUV will take place in 2021.

Mechanically, there are suggestions that the next IS could take advantage of the LS 500's twin-turbo V6, an engine that produces about 400 horsepower. However, because of the amount of time between now and its actual launch, we need to take these exclusives with a grain of salt; a lot can happen between now and then.

Meanwhile, while the published information suggests a future for the IS, we have heard no mention of the GS.

This could be your first look at the all-new Lexus IS, thanks to a pair of speculative renderings recently published in Japanese media and posted online by Arabic publication,
According to the report, these images were created by Japanese artists given an early look at the new IS by Lexus. Going by the artist's impression, the next-generation sedan is in line for a massive makeover.

Up front the spindle grille is much larger, the headlights are slimmer, also incorporating the LED daytime-running lights compared to the two-tier design of the current model.
At the rear, the new IS has a bit of a mini-me LS look about it. There's an integrated bootlid spoiler, sharp tail-lights with an upside-down L-shaped signature, numerous creases in the bumper, and a prominent diffuser-style insert with large trapezoidal tailpipe finishers.
Going by these reports and renderings, it seems Lexus will introduce a new generation of the IS, after a report by Automotive News in June quoted David Christ, general manager for Lexus in the USA, saying the company was taking a 'strategic look' into both the IS and larger GS due to their lower volume.

"We can't do it all at once, but we're certainly evaluating both vehicles," Christ told the publication.
