Canon G7X III - A Failed Camera Release?

Canon G7X III is in a bit of trouble. The reviews have been really poor, being shown on the B&H site as only 2.5 out of 5 stars. That is really poor for a new camera launch. Even worse, BB has listed the camera as "out of stock" and stopped selling them (as of today) and telling people a new firmware is coming soon.
More important than that - is this a customer revolt? Are people really finding the camera as below par for a Canon camera and saying so? This reaches beyond the normal Youtube chatter of "why I don't like this camera" and more to the heart of Canon's sales. The alternative is obviously Sony, a real "ouch" for Canon's market share.
