Hi, humans. Sometimes I got a really strange ideas. You could see some of them on this channel. Today’s video is not an exception.
I gonna tell you and try to explain what would happen if we dug a hole through the middle of the planet.
Interesting, right? Would such kind of experiment actually legal or not. It’s acceptable by physical laws and could we literally fall half the journey to the other side?
Indeed you could. if that hole or tunnel was full of air, you’d max out at a couple of hundred miles per hour, take days to get to the center, then slow when you passed the center of gravity, get pulled back, and be stuck in the center of the earth with no realistic way out.
It sounds not so good like it shows in the cartoons, where such holes are used for some kind of teleportation.
But this was the first example which would work if that hole was full of air.
But let’s see what happened if we could seal off both sides of this tunnel and pump it down to a near vacuum, then you’d continue to accelerate until you hit the center of the earth, going very fast, and make the journey to the center in about 21 minutes.
