The 2022 Land Cruiser will ride on the TNGA platform and house a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 in place of the greedy 5.7L V8 present in the LC200. Mated to a ten-speed automatic, the new engine makes 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, which is a full 30 hp and 80 lb-ft more kick than the older, larger powerplant. It’s also more economical, though there will be an even more frugal 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel model headed to select markets.
Toyota has also fitted it with adaptive variable suspension, and – a new acronym for you to add to your automotive vernacular – an electronically controlled kinetic dynamic suspension stabilization (E-KDSS) system. Those features will work out-of-sight, beneath drivers and passengers as they bump along trails and roads, but the Multi-Terrain Monitor that provides a real-time camera view of the obstacles beneath the vehicle brings some of the off-road fun inside.
The LC300 will come in three trims: a ZX base model, VX-R that will be for the Middle East exclusively, and a GR Sport edition.
