Virtually everything in this film seems to be planned meticulously and have a reason for appearing or, in this case, disappearing. Sadly, the 'case of the vanishing bench' cannot be solved with some clever David Fincher DVD commentary. This is just a massive editing screw up of epic proportions. It is so big that it really makes you wonder if one day Fincher will come out and tell us that Edward Norton "IS" the bench and we should have seen that all along. Either way, we are stuck with it.
