Today Nikon announced the successor to the Nikon D750 - this is the Nikon D780.

The last year or so has been a dedication of Nikon's resources to the development of their mirrorless system. Nikon feels that there is a solid opportunity in its DSLR space for another camera. Interestingly, the Nikon D780 borrows a lot of features of the Z6 when you're in Live View. Its also borrowed some of the key features from cameras such as the D850 and the D5.

The camera is built around a 24.5 megapixel BSI sensor and EXPEED 6 processor. The D780 has 2 separate autofocus systems - the optical viewfinder is a 51 AF point system with a 180k pixel autofocus sensor. In live view you get 273 hybrid AF points that cover 90% of the image frame. There are 2 UHS II card slots. The camera shoots up to 4k 30p video and you get 10-bit N-LOG and 10-bit HLG output via HDMI.

This is quite a big step up for Nikon - especially for live view and video. Is it enough to compete with mirrorless? How does this DSLR hold up with models such as the Nikon D850?
