A Canon marketing manager stated that Canon will not be pursuing any additional EF designs, unless they see a demand for it. This year is to be completely dedicated to the RF mount and their mirrorless camera system.

This isn't completely surprising considering the EF system has a very mature lineup of about any focal length a photographer would ever need. Canon also seem pretty inspired from an optics standpoint as the current lineup of RF lenses is exceptionally good. Is this the right move to compete with the Nikon Z mount or even Sony's E Mount? Its a little early to tell but anything is possible. Canon are making some pretty outstanding RF glass.
