After owning a Ford Maverick Hybrid for a full year and over 13,000 miles, we've gathered all the real-world data on what it’s actually like to live with Ford’s popular compact pickup. Purchased in midlevel XLT trim with all-wheel drive for an as-tested price of $36,990, our One-Year Road Test put this little truck through daily commutes, holiday road trips, and haul duties to see if it truly lives up to the hype.
There is a lot to love about the Ford Maverick Hybrid. Its carlike handling and tight turning radius make it exceptionally easy to drive and park, while the upright windows provide stellar outward visibility. The hybrid powertrain delivers smooth low-speed performance and outstanding efficiency, averaging nearly 33 mpg over our year of testing and frequently topping 35 to 40 mpg. Inside, the cabin impresses with clever storage, charming design accents, and an intuitive standard touchscreen.
However, daily ownership isn't without a few compromises. Highway cabin noise, engine strain on steep grades, and firm seats with limited thigh support can make long road trips tiresome. On the maintenance front, the Maverick required just one service visit at 11,000 miles for routine maintenance and two zero-cost recall repairs, before appraising at $28,600 after a year. Earning an Edmunds rating of 7.6 out of 10, and winning Edmunds Top Rated Truck for 2026, the Ford Maverick Hybrid remains our number one compact pickup and a terrific overall value.
