In a peristaltic pump, the fluid does not directly contact the pump's internal components; instead, it only comes into contact with the bore of the flexible tube or hose that the pump's rollers or shoes compress to move the fluid forward. This design prevents the pump mechanism from contaminating the fluid and keeps the fluid from contaminating the pump, making peristaltic pumps ideal for sterile, corrosive, or other sensitive fluid applications.
