One of the biggest success stories out of Cannes in the last 25 years, Sex, Lies and Videotape didn't just instantly launch writer/director Steven Soderbergh's career, it helped pave the way for the massive independent film boom of the early '90s, and everything that's come since. Sure, Soderbergh would go on to helm big Hollywood blockbusters like the Ocean's trilogy, but thanks to his Palme d'Or win and the waves Sex, Lies and Videotape made at Sundance, the film helped him and his fellow indie movie directors break out of the art house and into the mainstream, changing the face of modern American cinema in the process.
