Here are 10 of the most exciting new rollercoasters for summer 2016.

Number 10. Lightning Rod. Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Anticipated to be the world’s fastest wood rollercoaster, the new amusement park feature will travel at speeds up to 73 miles per hour. That combined with some launching and dropping should have hearts racing in no time. 

Number 9. Mako. Sea World Orlando, Florida. Ever wonder what it would feel like to be one of the ocean’s fastest, most adept predators? This ride takes you on a prey-hunting adventure – all 4,760 feet of it. 

Number 8. Flight of the Hippogriff. Universal Studios Hollywood, California. What’s better than whizzing along some track at many, many miles per hour? Doing it while checking out the Harry Potter Pumpkin Patch, traveling to the top of Hogwart’s Castle, and taking a trip past the home of Hagrid himself. 

Number 7. Phobia – Phear Coaster. Lake Compounce, Connecticut. Anyone looking for a triple launch, 65-mile-an-hour speed, and an inversion 150 feet above ground will be more than pleased with this attraction. Notably, those with actual phobias about hanging upside down while 15 stories up should probably take a pass. 

Number 6. The Joker. Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey. If the words ‘free-fall’ and ‘weightlessness’ pique your interest, get yourself this is rollercoaster ASAP. Not only does it promise to be a nonstop thrill ride, it’s all decked out in the Joker’s zippy signature color scheme. 

Number 5. Valravn. Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio. Promised to be the longest, tallest, and fastest dive coaster existing on the planet, its making involved over 100 pieces of track, each weighting roughly 17,000 pounds. The result? Cars that race at 75 miles per hour and drops of over 200 feet. 

Number 4. Gale Force. Playland’s Castaway Cove, Ocean City, New Jersey. Those with nerves of steel and $10 can experience the rush of a more than 90-degree drop. The experience also includes 3 launches and views from up to 125 feet in the sky. 

Number 3. Cobra’s Curse. Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida. It’s not every amusement park ride that gives people the opportunity to rise up 70 feet and look straight into the massive eyes of a truly behemoth king cobra. That’s just one of the many features that make this amusement extra special. 

Number 2. Storm Chaser. Kentucky Kingdom, Louisville, Kentucky. Barrel turns, a 10-story lift hill, and a corkscrew come together to make for this white-knuckle experience. Oh, and there’s also a practically perpendicular drop. 

Number 1. The New Revolution, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia, California. The ultimate in multi-tasking, this virtual reality-enhanced ride gives all the usual roller coaster excitement but tacks on the adrenaline rush that can come from fighting alien invaders. Now, that’s a full day.
