2020 Ferrari F8 Spider Unveiled https://youtu.be/B95CJVWfJoU
It was only six months ago when Ferrari introduced the F8 Tributo coupe at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and now its droptop counterpart is making its online debut. Essentially a replacement of the 488 Spider, the new convertible from Maranello remains faithful to its fixed roof cousin with the obvious exception of the electrically retractable hardtop and an updated rear deck to accommodate the new roof arrangement.
14. That’s how many seconds the RHT needs to fully deploy or retract while the car is traveling at speeds that don’t exceed 45 kph (28 mph). Compared to the model it replaces in Ferrari’s lineup, the new F8 Spider is 20 kilograms (44 pounds) lighter while being only 20 kg (44 lbs) heavier than the hardcore 488 Pista Spider. Those good looks bring an additional benefit taking into account the revised bodywork has improved aero by 10%.
A rival for the McLaren 720S Spider, the new Ferrari convertible uses the same twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine as the coupe, complete with 711 horsepower and 568 pound-feet (770 Newton-meters) of torque to match the 488 Pista. With 50 hp and 7 lb-ft (10 Nm) more than the model it supersedes, the new F8 Spider does the 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) run in 2.9 seconds or a tenth of a second quicker than its predecessor. 0-124 mph (0-200 kph) takes 8.2 seconds or half a second sooner than before, while the top speed of 211 mph (340 kph) is a considerable improvement over the 488 Spider’s 203 mph (325 kph).
The power gains were obtained by adapting the intake line from the 488 Challenge race car, while the Inconel exhaust manifolds adapted from the very same vehicle have shaved off 9.7 kg (21.4 lbs) from the engine weight. Engine upgrades inherited from the Pista have also contributed to the weight loss, and there’s now a gasoline particulate filter to make the F8 Spider comply with the stricter European emissions laws.
It’s not the only convertible Ferrari coming this month as the 812 Superfast will also lose its roof in the coming weeks.
