On sale for more than a year and a half in Brazil, the Argo supermini has proven to be a hit in South America’s largest car market.
Fiat has sold more than 100,000 units since the model launched in June 2017, placing the subcompact hatchback among Brazil’s top 10 best-selling nameplates last year. Now the Italian automaker is looking to boost sales further with a new variant called the Argo Trekking.

It’s a crossover-ish version that gains a higher ground clearance and more robust construction. Compared to the regular Argo, the Trekking rides 40 mm (1.57 in) higher, for an SUV-like ride height of 210 mm (8.2 in). That’s the same as the latest Dacia Duster.
Furthermore, it gains new 205/60 R15 91H S-ATR WL tread tires for mixed use that are said to ensure more comfort and sturdiness. The Argo Trekking also features revised tuning for the springs, shock absorbers, and electric power steering. As a result, Fiat claims the high-riding hatchback is the best in the segment on uneven surfaces, combining “the highest levels of comfort” with dynamic behavior.

There are no changes under the hood, however, as the 1.3-liter Firefly four-cylinder engine is maintained. The bi-fuel unit produces 109 hp and 139 Nm (103 lb-ft) when running on ethanol. The engine, which also runs on gasoline, is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

When it comes to styling, the Argo Trekking stands out from regular variant thanks to the black roof, black mirror caps, rear spoiler, and longitudinal roof bars, as well as “Trekking” decals on the sides. A black sticker on the bonnet, headlights with integrated LED DRLs, new alloys and a refreshed rear bumper with trapezoidal exhaust tip round off the exterior modifications.
Inside, customers get a dark fabric upholstery with orange stitching, embroidered Trekking logo and checkered texture on the seat backs, a black Fiat logo on the steering wheel, and chrome air vents.

Standard equipment also includes the Uconnect 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power windows, power side mirrors, and fog lights. Customers can add optional extras such as a rearview camera and different alloys, as well as more than 50 Mopar accessories.
