Mazda's new global crossover will slot between the CX-3 and CX-5.
Geneva is typically a showcase for European-market goodness, but Mazda chose it as the venue for unveiling its new global compact crossover, the CX-30.

Mazda describes the new CX-30 as a core model for its global crossover lineup, which might seem like a head-scratcher on first blush. Between the subcompact CX-3, compact CX-5 and midsize CX-9, Mazda doesn't really seem to be lacking in any particular segment.

Think, then, of the CX-30 as Mazda's answer to the likes of the Nissan Rogue Sport, slotting in between the CX-3 and CX-5. This likely means that the CX-30 shares its fundamental architecture with the Mazda3, which makes sense given that the latter is now available with all-wheel-drive.

The company emphasized its compact dimensions and easy-to-drive qualities as primary selling points. In the announcement, Mazda President and CEO Akira Marumoto said, "We designed the CX-30 to be an essential partner in the customer's life."
