2022 Mazda CX-5 is expected to carry over into the new model year without any major changes. A possible redesign for the 2023 model year could be in the cards. The CX-5 has gone unchanged since it was fully redesigned in 2017, receiving new features, trim levels, and engines throughout the years to remain fresh. While the CX-5 is starting to get a little old, the SUV’s upscale design and peppy performance still make it one of the better choices in the class.

Mazda introduced the all-new CX-5 in 2017 and the same design should carry into the 2022 model year. The SUV features Mazda’s Kodo design, which gives it a harmonious feel with the other SUVs in the brand’s lineup. The grille at the front features little points instead of horizontal bars and leads directly into slim headlights. At the back, the CX-5 wears a modest rear spoiler, twin exhaust pipes, and sharp taillights. The CX-5’s curvy silhouette and aggressive C-pillar give it a design that other compact SUVs can’t match.

The CX-5 is more upscale than the majority of other compact SUVs in the class. Premium materials and an upscale design help the Mazda stand out as one of the high-end options. One of the main elements that gives the CX-5 is high-end look is its clean dashboard design and uncluttered center console layout. The SUV’s crisp dials, comfortable seats, available leather upholstery, and optional real wood trim give the CX-5 a luxury-SUV feel. For 2022, the interior should remain the same, which is a good thing.
No changes are expected to be made to the 2022 CX-5’s powertrains. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder will continue to be available, producing 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come with a six-speed automatic transmission. The standard motor comes with front-wheel drive as standard, while the turbocharged engine comes with all-wheel drive.

Safety features aren’t expected to change for next year’s model year. Standard safety features on the CX-5 that should carry over include forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high beams. Buyers will be able to get a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking system, reverse automatic emergency braking, and driver attention monitoring as options.
