Mercedes-Benz has revealed the freshly updated S-class, which goes on sale in the second half of 2026 as a 2027 model. Featuring revised six-cylinder, plug-in hybrid, and V-8 powertrains, the new S-class is still part of the generation that came out for 2021, although this is more of a makeover than an all-new model.
While the new S-class's redesign doesn't do much to alter its outward appearance, there are a few visual tweaks.
Just like the headlights, the luxury sedan's taillights now feature star-shaped elements.
The lineup still consists of three variants: S500 (six-cylinder), S580 (V-8), and S580e (plug-in hybrid).
Both gas-only S-class models have a 48-volt system, with the S500 packing 442 horsepower and the S580 making 530 ponies.
The plug-in hybrid S580e now makes 576 horses (up from 510), and it should have at least 48 miles of pure-electric range.
Regardless of the powertrain, every S-class has a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Every S-class also has rear-axle steering, but an optional upgrade allows a smaller turning radius.
Along with a standard air suspension, customers can opt for the brand's Active Body Control that'll do what its name suggests.
Thanks to intelligent active dampers, this luxury sedan can adapt to road conditions and share that info with other S-classes.
Mercedes hasn't said how much each new S-class will cost, but we should find out before sales start later this year.
